Can my book be promoted at the International Christian Retail Show?
Many WinePress titles have been well received at ICRS. If your book has a national or international market and meets our editorial standards, you may be invited to participate at ICRS. The cost of attending the show varies depending on the publishing package you choose, and covers entrance into the show, advertising your book, and a personality booth for autograph sessions with bookstore buyers and/or the media. If you choose the publicity package, our publicist will also schedule various radio and TV interviews for you at the convention.

Can WinePress publish full color books containing photographs or illustrations?
Absolutely. Any of our packages can be modified to allow for full color inside and out, with options for glossy art paper, cover embellishments, and even a dust jacket. If you want to publish anything from a children's book to a full-size coffee table book, WinePress can provide everything you need.

Do you ever turn down manuscripts?
Yes. We maintain a high standard in what we publish. From a theological viewpoint we might be considered "conservative." We publish a wide spectrum of material for Christian authors, but we take our responsibility to uphold the truth of Scripture very seriously. Therefore, we do not accept books that promote Prosperity doctrine, the Brownsville/Toronto "revival," or women pastors in leadership over men. For more information, see our standards page.

How did WinePress get its name?
The first printing press was a converted winepress, and the first book printed on it was the Gutenberg Bible! Our name is a reminder of how God has always enabled His people to spread the message of the gospel.

What design services are included?
Our talented designers create a professional cover design that compliments the contents of your book. They work best when given free rein to use their skills in crafting covers that can compete in a book store setting. However, we certainly welcome the author's contribution for cover ideas, and will accommodate them as much as possible. If an idea is extremely specific it may require customized art work which adds additional expense.
With the Silver, Gold and Platinum Publishing Packages, embellishments such as embossing, matte lamination with spot gloss lamination on the title or graphic, and/or foil stamping are available. This kind of feature brings credibility and increased quality to the existing design. Remember, people DO judge a book by its cover!

What is a complete manuscript?
A complete manuscript is ready to be published and thoroughly meets the needs of your reader - all parts are included, well written, and fully revised. Every writer knows it's the rewriting that makes a good book, not the initial draft.
We recommend that you take a day or two and think about the main message you want your readers to "take away" after reading your book. Also think about your intended audience. Get a clear picture of who you expect to be your typical reader: Are they male or female? Office workers? Single moms? Graduates of Harvard? Sports fans? Pastors? Read your manuscript again with a particular audience in mind, and focus on communicating every part of your book clearly to those individuals.
All of this will help you avoid spending extra time and money later revising your manuscript during the proofing stages.

What is a publicity kit?
Publicity kit, press kit, marketing package-they all mean the same thing: an informative, focused, and professional representation of you and your book to be used in making a strong first impression with the media, publishing industry, and potential customers. A standard kit includes an attractive folder with your book cover on the front, a book summary (recap), author's biography, suggested interview questions, endorsements (if applicable). Depending on your publishing package you could also receive postcards, flyers and a table top stand.

What is the difference between self-publishing and royalty publishing?
With self-publishing, you pay for the production and promotion of the book, and then you retain all the profit. Royalty publishers pay the production and promotion costs up front. However, unknown authors don't usually receive much of a promotion budget and, in many cases now, are expected to pay for their own marketing and publicity.
Then, if the book sells, the author is paid a very small royalty, usually 10% of the net. Example: The publisher sells a $10 book to bookstores and distributors for about $4.50. Then they pay you 10%, or $0.45 cents. WinePress offers the top-quality services that royalty publishers offer, but we allow the author to control the project and receive substantially more of the profit!

What should I expect from the publishing process?
It's important to understand the concept of WinePress being your partner in publishing. What most people don't realize is that a royalty publisher usually takes 2 years to publish a book and the author is not involved in the process at all. There are always many difficulties and issues that crop up and get fixed along the way, but because the author is out of that loop, they don’t even know it happens. Even so, almost every book produced by major publishers still has several typos in it!
Because WinePress is your partner, we walk you through the whole process and you have much more control and input than with a royalty publisher. This also means that you see every step, every twist and turn, every problem that comes up - but, more importantly, you will see these things being solved, fixed, and overcome. The reason the process takes the time it does is precisely so that these normal bumps in the road can be navigated safely. And the end result is definitely worth it. As long as we all work together, we accomplish the best.

Why does my manuscript need to be edited?
The publishing industry employs a unique set of editorial norms typically not taught in school. Even well-educated authors are frequently surprised at how different accepted styles have become. And working on one manuscript for a long period of time continuously diminishes your objectivity. You become too familiar with your own words, potentially alienating your audience through leaps in logic and avoidable inaccuracies.
WinePress Publishing offers you a fresh perspective and professional services from some of the top editors in the business. Our goal is to apply editorial norms that improve the reader's ability to comprehend and enjoy your message: consistency, proper punctuation, standard capitalization, accepted grammar, accurate spelling, and clear formatting. You certainly do not want your readers to miss your message due to grammar mistakes.
You always have the final approval of any changes made to your work.

Will my book be sold in Christian bookstores?
Every Christian bookstore will have access to your book through our distribution channels, and can order it for any customer who requests it. Keep in mind that bookstores now carry a large selection of gift items limiting the amount of shelf space available for books. If a store continually receives orders for a book, the buyers will often order extra copies to keep on their shelves, once they see the demand. Usually bookstores local to your area will carry your book in the store at your request.

Will WinePress handle my marketing?
WinePress gives your marketing a successful start and creates momentum that compliments your additional marketing efforts. Depending on the publishing package you choose, our in-house publicist sends out review copies of your book and then personally follows up with the appropriate media (TV, radio, and newspaper) contacts. Interviews are scheduled for you with all the interested contacts.
If you choose the Platinum Publishing Package you receive an extensive publicity campaign scheduling radio interviews nationwide over a period of 4-6 months. In addition, your book is listed with on-line retailers, our company bookstore, and other sources where consumers can purchase your book.
